Youth Support Worker

The Real Group are seeking a Casual Youth Support Worker/ Mentor.

The role is to assist the Project Coordinator in mentoring, assisting and guiding the youth into their career and education pathways.


  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children) essential
  • Current Drivers Licence and own vehicle
  • Ability to quickly, sensitively and effectively assist with the de-escalation of young people in moments of personal stress
  • Demonstrated ability to manage behaviour including the ability to provide sensitivity to cultural and social issues which may affect young people
  • Experience in providing Youth Work, education and support services to marginalised young people is advantageous
  • Commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with a range of people
  • Patience, tolerance and flexibility


  • Mentoring and skill development – guiding young people to develop independent living skills
  • Being a positive role model and providing positive support in areas such as emotional behaviour, personal care and hygiene, transport, education, cooking and domestic duties
  • Communicating and following individual training and support plans for the youth
  • Helping young people to engage with their local communities and culture through access to Community Participation Programs and recreational activities
  • Assist with community/environmental projects, outdoor education and sporting activities
  • Develop a relationship with young people based on respect and trust, ensuring they have a safe place to develop their identity and place in society
  • Mentor, coach and support individuals, encouraging greater social inclusion
